Shinohara Obanoyama: Peaceful Neighborhood High on the Slope of Mt. Rokko

If you keep heading north from Hankyu Rokko and approach the top of the slope and the boundary between civilization and mountain forest, you’ll find yourself in Shinohara Obanoyama, one of Kobe’s quietest and most appealing places to live. If you choose to explore the area on foot, be sure to bring a handkerchief to wipe your sweat and ample drinking water, because you’re in for a real workout!

To begin with, the grade makes for quite a strenuous walk. But then, after passing the Itsukushima Shrine, the slope becomes steeper – much steeper. But it’s exciting to watch more and more of the city below come into view as you climb higher.

Almost all of the residents travel in and out of the area by car. However, neighbors visiting each other, and the students who walk up and down long sections of the hill each day, seem accustomed to climbing the slope.

Near the top, there are stately pines and spacious European-style houses. Some of the properties are right up against forest land. The mountain air is fresh and crisp, and the temperature is cooler than at sea level. The noise and action of the city seems far away. It is easy to see why people would choose to live here.

Although afterward I was tired and my legs were sore, I enjoyed my walk in Shinohara Obanoyama. If you’re looking for a quiet, private place to live in Kobe that’s close to nature, be sure to check out this neighborhood.

Actually, there’s a plot of land in Shinohara Obanoyama for sale. If you’re interested, please take a look here: https://www.core8eight.com/for-sale/build-your-dream-home-720-square-meters-of-land-in-nada/?fbclid=IwAR1jPF_TXU9EiWvAAAocp6c_-PIgCaU_MeBYNZSmlzd_F3tpH9RRewJynGw
