Kitano’s Small Businesses

In the south-western corner of Kitano, there are a variety of small shops and family-owned businesses which give this neighborhood in the city a distinctive small-town, close-knit feel. Some of them operate out of houses or residential apartments. This place has a very different atmosphere from the area around Sannomiya, which is full of chain stores and restaurants.

One popular bar in this area is the Mona Lisa, which is normally open until 5 a.m. and has a large selection of wines.

Jesus Pizza is a relative newcomer to the area, daily serving up slices of fresh New York-style pizza which has become a hit with locals.

Beyond Coffee Roasters has two locations in the neighborhood, one of which is located in an old Showa-era house. Take out orders are passed through the front window.

The City Donuts and Coffee is also a newcomer to the neighborhood, opening in 2021. This shop makes American-style doughnuts and is so popular that most items sell out within a couple of hours after opening. If you’d like to try the donuts here, be sure to come early!

Interested in opening a take-out business in this part of Kitano? There is a first-floor apartment available in the neighborhood with a take-away window in the kitchen facing the street. Check it out here:
